Dr. Marty Pets Information
Dr. Marty Pets was founded by Dr. Martin Goldstein, who has been a veterinarian for over 40 years. The brand’s nutrition and ingredients are an extension of Dr. Marty’s vision of pet nutrition.
Dr. Marty is a controversial figure that has legions of supporters but also a large group that disagrees with him. He is well known in the media and has been featured on popular TV shows with Celebrities such as Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey.
You can find a clip of Dr. Marty with Martha Stewart on her show here.
Dr. Marty also has a website where you can find more information about himself and his seminars, as well as a blog section that discusses a variety of topics. You can find this website here.
However, it appears that this blog has seen limited updates in recent years. The reason for this lack of new content and discussion is unknown, but Dr. Marty is likely busy with other ventures.
However, while Dr. Marty’s primary blog is dormant, there is also a blog on Dr. Marty’s pet food website. This blog is updated weekly and discusses a variety of pet-related topics, such as grooming, health issues, and nutrition.
It isn’t clear whether Dr. Marty maintains this blog himself or it is maintained on his behalf. You can find this pet food blog here.
Lastly, Dr. Marty also has a popular book that discusses various pet-related topics, including nutrition, ailments, and alternative medicine.
While some of the points discussed in this book may have merit, others could be thought of as questionable, and many would disagree. Based on a recent update on his blog, it appears that Dr. Marty is writing a second book to follow up on this first book.
Some critics of Dr. Marty argue that the creation of his pet food brand is to take advantage of his fame and popularity to make money.
Dr. Marty isn’t the only famous Veterinarian to go down this avenue; other examples include Dr. Tim’s, Dr. Pol’s, and Dr. Chris Brown (Optimum).
Dr. Marty Pets Product Range
Dog Food
Dr. Marty Pets’ dog food product range is moderate in size and consists of a freeze-dried product, two dog treats, and four dog supplements. The freeze-dried product is also a raw recipe and has not been cooked in any way.
This product range used to be notably smaller, but it expanded in 2020 with the addition of new treat and supplement products.
This increase in the size of Dr. Marty’s product range is almost certainly due to the massive success of the brand.
Dog Treats are one of the new additions to Dr. Marty’s product range. They are made from 100% Beef Liver or Salmon and complement the freeze-dried food recipe.
While freeze-dried food and dog treats are a viable addition to a dog’s diet, dog supplements provide questionable and often unquantifiable benefits. This situation could easily be compared to many human supplements, which also have limited proven benefits.
However, Dr. Marty Pet’s is one of the leading providers of dog supplements along with other brands like Ultimate Pet Nutrition, which sells the “Nutra Thrive” product. You can check them out here.
Dr. Marty Pets does not produce or sell any traditional kibble or canned dog food products. This lack of traditional dog food products aligns with Dr. Marty’s vision and beliefs surrounding dog food.
Cat Food
Dr. Marty Pets’ cat food product range is also moderate in size and used to only consist of a single freeze-dried recipe. This recipe is very similar to the freeze-dried dog food recipe.
However, in 2020, they expanded their cat range significantly, and it now includes a treat recipe and a supplement (Feline Prime).
As we discussed above, the benefits of supplements for cats are mostly unproven, but it is clear that Dr. Marty is one of the leading promoters and producers of supplements.
While Dr. Marty’s dog treats are designed for dogs, they could be fed to cats. This is possible because they are 100% Beef Liver or Salmon, which cats are more than capable of consuming.
Once again, Dr. Marty Pets does not produce or sell any traditional kibble or canned cat food products.
While Dr. Marty may not produce wet/canned cat food, we recommend you consider it for your cat as it can be highly beneficial. You can check out some of the wet cat food brands we’ve reviewed here.
Dr. Marty Pets Nutrition
Dog Food
As you can see above, the nutrition offered by Dr. Marty Pets dog food is very satisfactory and is significantly above-average.
This satisfactory nutritional profile is thanks to a generous proportion of protein and fat, which can be used to fuel a dog’s growth, maintenance, and activity.
While the nutrition offered by Dr. Marty is not quite as impressive as some other freeze-dried brands, such as Ziwi Peak or Orijen, the proportion of carbohydrates found in the recipe is still modest.
While dogs do not need a high proportion of carbohydrates in their diet, they can consume a moderate proportion without negative consequences.
If you’d like to learn more about canine nutrition, I’d highly recommend you check out our Dog Food Guide for an in-depth discussion and analysis.
Cat Food
As displayed above, the nutrition offered by Dr. Marty Pets cat food is satisfactory and is a significant improvement when compared to most traditional dry cat food.
However, the nutritional profile is not quite as impressive when compared to other freeze-dried cat food recipes.
This poor comparison is as the carbohydrate proportion present in this recipe is still notable at over 20%.
Cats do not need to consume any carbohydrates in their diet. The reason cats do not need to consume carbohydrates is that they are obligate carnivores, and they are suited to eating meat and fish ingredients rather than plant-based ingredients.
If you’d like to learn more about feline nutrition and what it means to be an obligate carnivore, head on over to our Cat Food Guide.
Dr. Marty Pets Ingredients
We are happy to state that Dr. Marty Pets only uses fresh ingredients from across the United States and Canada.
While one could argue that there are many other countries where high-quality and safe ingredients can be sourced, many consumers in North America are wary of ingredients from other continents. This fear of outside sources is especially true of anything that is sourced from China.
High-Quality Meat & Fish Ingredients
- Turkey
- Beef
- Salmon
- Duck
- Eggs
- Beef Liver
Some of the high-quality meat and fish ingredients used in Dr. Marty Pets’ products are listed above.
All of these ingredients are high in protein and fat, which is a critical part of dogs’ and cats’ diets. Named meat and fish ingredients such as these should be at the core of every dog or cat’s diet.
In particular, ingredients such as Salmon are incredibly nutritious. Salmon is considered to be one of the best sources of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which have been proven to provide a range of health benefits.
Examples of these include improving cognitive health, reducing the risk of certain diseases, and an improvement in the health of dogs’ or cats’ skin and fur.
Beef Liver is found in Dr. Marty Pets’ recipes in small quantities. Beef Liver is a very dense source of protein and fat, as well as select vitamins and minerals that are often lacking in traditional meat cuts.
This nutritional density is why ingredients like Beef Liver and Chicken Liver are so regularly used in pet food.
Also, organ meat is often more flavorful than other meat cuts, making a recipe more appealing to dogs and cats.
Eggs are also present in Dr. Marty Pets’ recipes in a small portion size. Eggs are a great addition to pet food and are one of the most bioavailable sources of protein and fat.
This means that they are effortless to digest and absorb, which means that their nutrition is seldom wasted.
Also, Eggs contain many beneficial vitamins and minerals at high levels that could improve dogs’ or cats’ health and well-being.
Other Notable Ingredients
Dr. Marty Pets products contain a small portion of Pea Flour. Pea Flour is a dense source of carbohydrates and contains only minor nutrition outside of this.
We consider Pea Flour to be a lower-quality ingredient that is often used in a technique known as Ingredient Splitting.
However, the portion of Pea Flour in Dr. Marty Pet’s recipes is tiny and so isn’t worthy of grave concern or critique.
You can find out more about Pea Flour in our article Peas, Pea Protein, Pea Flour, and Pea Fiber in Dog Food.
Also, I highly recommend you read our discussion on Ingredient Splitting, which is called Ingredient Splitting in Pet Food – Exposed.
Dr. Marty makes use of Flaxseed in his freeze-dried recipes. Flaxseed is an extremely popular addition to pet food recipes throughout the industry.
It is included as it is an excellent source of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
As we mentioned earlier, when discussing Salmon, these fatty acids are believed to provide a range of health benefits to humans and pets alike. Read more about Flaxseed in Flaxseed In Dog Food.
There is a small portion of Sweet Potato included in Dr. Marty’s recipes. Sweet Potatoes are an extremely dense source of carbohydrates, which means their portion size needs to be tightly controlled.
Thankfully the portion used by Dr. Marty is tiny and won’t skew the recipe’s overall nutrition.
The last ingredient we’ll discuss is Mixed Tocopherols. Most pet owners won’t understand this ingredient, but it is a natural preservative that is used to ensure that food remains safe to consume.
The majority of the industry prefers natural preservatives such as Mixed Tocopherols to artificial preservatives. You can read more about Tocopherols here.
Dr. Marty Pets Animal Testing
At this time, we have no information on what kind of testing Dr. Marty Pets takes part in. However, given the small size of the brand and its limited product range, they are likely to not partake in any significant testing or feeding trials.
Supporters of the large pet food brands (Purina, Royal Canin, Hill’s, etc.) argue that feeding trials are a crucial part of the formulation process.
You can read more about these brands’ opinions on testing in our article on the WSAVA Guidelines.
We firmly believe that testing on animals in an invasive manner or laboratory setting is cruel and outdated. We hope it will be severely reduced or eliminated in the coming years.
Dr. Marty Pets Recalls
At this time, despite significant research (FDA, AVMA, DogFoodAdvisor), we have no information that leads us to believe that any products by Dr. Marty Pets have ever been recalled.
While this is a positive trait, the brand is still relatively young and small in size. We hope that the brand can maintain this recall-free record over the coming years by carrying out safe manufacturing processes.
We recommend that all pet owners remain vigilant of any future recalls of Dr. Marty Pets products or products from any other brand.

Nature’s Blend Review
ㅤEven though Nature’s Blend is Dr. Marty’s only dog food recipe, we want to discuss it further and highlight that it is high-quality and nutritious.
The proportions of protein and fat in the recipe are very satisfactory and would be suitable for most dogs, including those that are more active.
Moreover, the protein and fat in the recipe are provided by whole meat and fish ingredients, such as Beef, Turkey, and Salmon. These ingredients are highly digestible and very suited to a dog’s digestive system.
The recipe also includes a small portion of flaxseed, which can boost the overall level of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which many believe can provide several health benefits.
While some might be concerned by the inclusion of Pea Flour by Dr. Marty, the portion present is very small and is not worthy of serious concern.
The addition of other minor fruit and vegetable ingredients could also prove advantageous thanks to the vitamins and minerals they can provide.
Nature’s Feast Review
ㅤWhile Dr. Marty’s dog food recipe may be the more popular of the two, his cat food recipe should not be neglected and is leaps and bounds above most commercial recipes.
The recipe uses similar meat and fish ingredients as the dog food recipe, which includes Turkey, Salmon, and Whitefish. It also includes some organ meat, such as Chicken Liver and Turkey Heart.
Organ meat can be a fantastic addition to a cat’s diet as it can improve the flavor of the recipe and is a very dense source of vitamins and minerals that are often lacking in whole meat cuts.
While cats do not need to consume plant-based material or a notable portion of carbohydrates, the portion present in this recipe is far below most cat food, so you should not mark it down.

Thanks so much for this in-depth and helpful review. I’m going to order some of this cat food and start transitioning our beloved cat over for the most optimal diet, and hopefully, the best health and longevity down the road. Our pets deserve that…thanks again!
I have had my dog 2years , she has pancreatitis and it has been a constant struggle to get a dog food she will eat very worrisome nibble here and there she would put all the hard food on the floor and eat some of the soft always looked sickly, I have been giving her Dr Marty’s food and she can’t wait to eat she is actually excited about eating I thought I would never see that with her,l actually get excited for her I have tried so many dog foods to no avail. I am so grateful I saw his advertisement on the internet. Thank you so much for putting this food out there. It is a bit pricey I hope I will be able to continue giving it . but for now I feel better about what my dog is eating. Misty thanks you Everytime she goes to her food bowl.
I’m really glad to hear your comments – from a ‘real’ person
Would like to order Pro Power supplement
Could not find an order form.
Bought Propower digestive supplement and it caused severe vomiting and diarrhea for about 3 days. Thought we were going to need to take our dog to the vet. Would not recommend your product!
I wish my experience with Dr. Marty’s dog food had been as positive as some of the pet owners. Each time I tried to slowly introduce the food or additives my poor fur baby ended up in the ER once and our vet once with Bloody diarrhea. I so wanted this to be the Miracle for my baby as it has been for others.
Not to sound negative but I’m glad I’m not alone in this food not being good for my baby. I thought after reading all the positive that my fur baby’s body was the only one rejecting this product.
So, it works for some and not for other. I guess that’s life. To bad they make getting a refund difficult. 😞
How much or how many oz do you feed a 10 pound dog.?
Dr Marty
Our pets names are Angelo and Pappi. One a Pappion and the other a rescue Pomeranian. My wife ordered a bag of Dr of Marty’s natural dog food. Both are very finicky eaters. We make most of their food daily. When we opened the bag of Dr Marty’s they couldn’t wait to start eating it! It is their go to food now. We don’t have to coax them to eat. It was really been a great help to all of us!
I just watched the video on my phone but I caught cut off on the link to order. How can i try this new product. My dachshund is 11 yrs old has no energy for walks and we feed him cooked chicken 2 tbl spoons with Costco dog food. 2 every day. He licks his feet constantly and we have paid high vet bills because of the loss of his skin. I would love to try this product.
Joyce hembey
Your pet is licking their feet because some pets are allergic to poultry like chicken. It would be wise to choose a different meat.
Would you like to buy mine? My dog won’t touch it and i have been reading other reviews that the customer service is impossible to reach.
Liking paws is usually a sign of pain somewhere in the body. This has been true of the numerous rescue dogs I’ve had, currently numbering 12 I’ve kept due to extreme health issues from abuse and neglect (from having teeth kicked out to being blinded, needing limb amputation and puppy milled).
Severe skin issues, the itching/scratching/chewing until bloody then, continuing while crying in pain, the hair loss were ALL a result of additives, preservatives, fillers, chemicals and food coloring. Grains (wheat, rye, barley, etc) also contributed. Having Celiac Disease I recognized the fowl body waste smells and daily progressive stages of diarrhea. My dogs have always been Purina dogs, until 3 years ago and 4 different rescues with skin issues that meds did not help. I began introducing Purina’s Grain Free with slightest improvement. I then researched every item listed past “salt” in description (nothing so-called “natural” after “salt) and spoke with my Vets. I then, began researching all brands dry dog food and snack products. I began a 6 month transition to ‘Orijen’ (as I slowly introduced for system adjustment each of their four products, I now have mixed all together, cautious for ill effects). Within the first two weeks, skin issues were healing and dissipating and coats began to grow back in (as my kids were picking out the ‘Orijen’ to eat). Bowels normalized, bloating stopped, dogs became more active and playful even at ages 11-14 years, coats are healthy, shed less, they are maintaining perfect weight and they no longer have to eat more to be satisfied, drinking more water due to less moisture content of other foods. As healthy as my Vets have said of all my critters, they have been very pleased with increased health particularly with the new healing of old injuries of damaged/dislocated joints and broken bones. All 12 of my dogs, some now age 15-17 years get annual X-rays, dental, full lab work ups for organ, glands, etc. function. All have just recently been given clean bills of health and are happy. Even the Pug, Peggy Sue, I took in at age 6-1/2 months old, cruely abused (owners blinded, dislocated both hips, broke and splintered her femur on the diagonal and developed Congestive Heart Failure) and who Vets tentative thought may have to be put down by age 2-3 years old will be 11 years old this October 2020. She gives both the younger and larger dogs a run for their money and you wouldn’t know she is blind. Bottom line is “All Natural” is not all natural nor healthy if “salt is a main ingredient and there are “ingredients listed after salt. The further down the list-the less there is of an item. Label may state includes Blueberries, but listed far down,1 single Blueberry deceptively validates the Label. ‘Orijen’ is not inexpensive for 12 dogs, but healthy dogs save on Vet bills and providing for my kids on my Social Security, a little extra spent here saves a whole lot there.
I’m confused. Why are you writing in a review area for a competing product and saying nothing about that product? Weird!
With all the worries of ingredients. We lost 3 dogs giving them poisoned food. We had no idea China had sent food to us. Bought food from walmart lost our dogs . So items can say made in USA but then in small print write the truth and say with imported products. So I’m terrified to try a different food that we have had our dogs on for years. But thought I’d try it. But the memories of the pain all those years ago I, terrified to try it. Understandable. So I ask dr Marty to let me return, they have never been open. Still in mailed packaging. I just couldn’t do it. But they said I had to pay return postage but living in rural WV post office in another town and with this deadly virus we don’t can’t leave. So I ask for a prepaid label to return and just take postage out of my return lol
They won’t even answer. Definitely asking a favor but wouldn’t even answer. We have our own business and sometimes we had to go out of the way to help our older patrons . Not this company . A company that won’t help a terrified pet owner doesn’t say much For a company that specializes in dog food etc🤷🏻♀️Save your money I do t believe in doing business with a company that doesn’t care. We are living thru horrible times and I have no way to buy postage to return but willing to repay them if they old just send me the prepaid label.
They ignored me
I’m sure your losses were heartbreaking. I can’t imagine going through that. I did just want to say that we have cats and dogs and I have always purchased the best products available with tons of research supporting my purchasing decisions. I’ve been using Dr. Marty’s dog food for a year now and our dogs love it. They are healthy and happy pups. I also use fully raw food (I get it frozen from a local supplier, but I know some specialty pet stores sell Primal, which is considered a good quality raw food product). Our dogs get part raw, part freeze dried (either Dr. Marty’s or The Honest Kitchen) and then supplements. I’ve learned not to rely on any one food, so any meal is a combination of several different food sources/brands. I’m sorry you are having difficulty with your customer service issues. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve had good results with Dr. Marty’s freeze-dried dog food and feel the ingredients are conscientiously sourced and of high quality. If you mix the freeze-dried food in with other food, you will be supplementing with a decent product. And, if you choose to stick with Dr. Marty’s, look for special offers that they run several times a year; that can make a big difference on costs. Best of luck to you.
Really? Stamps.com
Tracy, what about Stamps.com??
We have been using Dr Marty raw Natures Blend as a topper fir our 3 small dogs for over 2 years now! We have 3 dogs 1) 16 years old,1) 11 years 1) 5 1/2! We buy 3- bags every month. & sometimes the vitamins or Pro Power Plus! But sometimes we can’t afford to buy all of it! We use Kirkland’s organic Natures Domain Pea Protein for their main food, and use your Natures blend as topper morning & night! It seems their energy level, activity, & mild arthritis has gotten dramatically better since implementing your products in their diet! Our Maltipoo(11), & Buchanan/Schitzu mix seem to lick their paws an excessive amount! Is the organic Costco (Kirkland), brand a good food for them( there seems to be NO dyes in it! I would love to be able to buy the prebiotic/ probiotic powder supplement from Dr Marty, but usually can’t afford to spend an extra $130 month(3) little containers per month! I am a on auto ship & wish you had deals for regular customers like for every 6 bags of Pro Power Plus you get 1- free! Please let me know if the organic Costco brand paired with your freeze dried supplements and vitamins will extend their lives! Thanks, Rick
I give my dog the powder and after just 1 can she stooped scratching behind her ear and licking her paws.I did order the food but had a question before I give it to her and here is were I agree with you nobody answers questions no matter how many e mails you send them. The customer service is non existing.
I’ve had great results with Dr Marty! I’ve had to call customer service due to my liver treats missing out of my order! They immediately sent out the treats the same day and apologized for the missing item! So sorry you were having issues with customer service! Calling is really the fastest way to get answers, at least it was for me!
Bobbie….have you considered the company is closed due to the virus? Customer service for many companies has been hard to come by due to business closings. Put it up for sale on eBay and make something rather than tossing it. It’s not reasonable to expect them to hassle with postage, etc for one bag of food.
I just watched his ad on the web. He states you can send an empty bag and you’ll get a refund “No questions asked”
No … he says to send back the unused portion. So definitely not an empty bag …
I just listened to the presentation and it definitely said you can still get a refund by sending back the empty bag.
He says even an empty bag for a full refund.
Anita,
YES….. He states even an Empty bag for a Full Refund……
I have 3 under 20 pound dogs. I cup for each equals 3 cups
a day. How big are bags?
The bags are small. I love the dog food and my dog loves it but one bag barely lasted a week and that’s using it with her other food. So at 2 cups a day 1 bag might last a week and at $30 a bag it adds up fast. I’m shopping around for a substitute because I just can’t afford $120-150 a month for this food supplement. I’m not even giving her the recommended amount either. I have a 110lb Rottweiler and from what I could tell she’s supposed to have 4 cups a day.
This is true. He has both a Healthier Dog Guarantee And he even says they want you to try it so bad that you can send back an empty bag with no questions asked and get a full refund. And you don’t even have to get a health check up, you just monitor their health yourself and send back if you don’t notice any changes.
But Bobbie, you don’t even have to post it on eBay, I’ll buy it from you and pay shipping if you don’t end up wanting it.
Where do I order the Pro Power Plus?
I am trying again ,my German Shepherd didn’t like it (but I guess she was older when I discover Doctor Marty food )
Now I have a Bichon frise who is 10 months old .so I did order to see if he will eat it . If not I will cancel the subscription.
Christine,
In reality, you can be a real pet lover:
donate the food to your local food bank or humane society. They do help people feed their dogs. They are in dire need of pet food right now. They may have pickup available.
How does the Canadian manufacturer deal with raw food pathogens? Since the raw meats are not cooked, is it irradiated?
This is exactly my question. My vet is concerned about listeria and other pathogens and I’m been looking for the freeze drying process.
My 12 1/2 yr old Frenchy just lost her brother to lymphoma 2 wksago. I thought to try the food for her,to do everything to keep her healthier. She just didn’t want the food. She’s pretty set in her own way, I tried the Pro Power on her food, the next day she didn’t want to eat. The salmon treats came all crumbled. I have attempted to contact customer service to no avail, not even a response to email. It’s ludicrous to expect anyone for over an hour, even for the chat. So I guess there is no
90 day return policy,it said to contact customer service which is impossible
After reading lot of negative reviews. I decided not to order dr Marten s products. I don’t know what to do! I ve tried so many different food for my bulldog. She still licking her paws. Constantly scratching herself. Lot of bald spots. She looks so depressed most of the time. It’s breaking my heart! Help she s only 3 years old. I hate seeing her suffering. I ve been taking her to the vet. Nothing helps! Please if anyone has the similar experience and found the solution. Pls let me know. sstrongin1006@gmail.com thanks stay safe you all.
My Lab had the same problem. She has been on Apoquel for a few years now. It made things a lot better. It’s a little pricey but they now have a program where you can earn money towards your next purchase. It really helps. Ask your a Vet about this. Good Luck!,
I just started apoquel for my rescued pug as he licks for over 1/2 hour nearly every nite when he goes to bed & wakes up at 5:30 am & continues til I get up at 6. Just started it a couple of days ago & it hasnt helped yet. How long til it helped your dog? I thought it had to be good since a talking pug advertises it on tv.
Scott, I too have my dog on by prescription, Apoquel. It helps specially during the allergy season. As Mary said, they do have a program to help with the cost. Best to you and the pup.
Any of you folks with the licking itching energy problems tried the dry NUTRO grain free, dry dog food lines products? Our 13 year old toy poodle has been on them since a pup.The label clearly shows they are not entirely grain free but have barley in farther down the list(in a small quantity) but that never bothered her.I only ask because the Nutro for seniors small bites is also brown rice all meat as main ingredients formula that she has flourished with since we have had her on.Before this it was the Adult and before that the puppy. At 6 months we turned her to this line prior to that we had her on Puppy chow and almost lost her.At 24 dollars a bag the Nutro lines are about the best bang for the buck for a commercial line WITH vital Omega 3’s and other fatty acids necessary that Doc Marty is charging for his tiny freeze dried bags way more for.Not knocking the quality of the Doc but his prices, meh we love our pets but there are more affordable safe commercial foods available if the furbaby community reaches out.My wife and I love our Missy and we would never steer anyone wrong on the food we have used for 13 years.
I also use NUTRO, and have for 12 years. My husband bought Dr. Marty’s freeze dried food to try. I mixed about 6 pieces with the nutro. 2 days later my 9 lb. Dachshund had bloody diarrhea. A few days after that she had a small poo that looked like tiny worms. I have always had my dog’s poo tested every year–no worms. I haven’t had her poo tested yet, but I stopped Dr. Mary’s food. Haven’t had any problems since. I don’t know if that is the problem, but I’m most going to feed my dog any more Dr. Marty’s food.
My dogs love this so I ordered 9 more bags. They both have health issues and I’m hoping to see some relief. I think my dogs would rather eat this food than anything else. I put extra water in to make it soupy and they lick up every last drop of the water and keep checking their bowls to see if there’s any tiny bit left. It’s expensive but I’m giving this a shot because one of my dogs is older and she has so many digestive issues and discomfort. I hope this helps.
This is in response to Scott and the bulldog. My dog had similar issues and after a year or so of Dr. Marty’s dog food and pro power plus (probiotics) my dog’s issues have resolved. The customer service was not an issue prior to Covid-19, so don’t be dismayed by the negative reviews. Right now during Covid if you call the wait time is lengthy so just plan on holding while you do something else on your phone, like go through emails. Like everyone else, the guy told me their short staffed due to the virus, so don’t give up, it’s worth the wait.
Let me share my routine with you and maybe it’ll work for your dog too. Here’s how I mix the food:
I mix Honest Kitchen Base Mix with Marty’s food (2/3 Marty’s to 1/3 Honest Kitchen) this makes it more affordable and gives a more solid poop. I prepare it this way: I mix the water with each food in separate bowls, let sit for 3 minutes, then add probiotics to each bowl, then combine both bowls. Now it’s ready to eat. At first my dog wouldn’t eat it and I certainly wasn’t going to throw it out, so I patted it out on a small plate then slipped it in a freezer bag and stuck it in the freezer. Well, the next day or so I took it out, and after a few minutes was able to break into bite size pieces and offered it to him. He carefully sniffed and paused for a moment then he ate it. From that point on that’s what I do and he eats it and he’s all well now. I checked with customer service to see if the probiotics would work this way (frozen) and he told me that it’s probably even better because being frozen the probiotics have a better chance of survival while making its way to the intestines, which is where it works it’s magic.
You can do a Google search to find the website and start a subscription for autoship, and leave your email address and you will start to receive emails that have discounts periodically so you can stock up at a much reduced price.
Here’s a couple more things I do that help his condition: foot soaks after walks to remove allergens, use “GRRR” dog shampoo bar. My dog is 20 lbs so he fits in the bathroom sink, fill enough water to cover paws and rub the bar soap between your hands under water to get a cloudy water, let dog stand in water for at least a minute, swish around paws as if your bathing him. Then I move him to the tub and briefly rub the soap over his belly to remove allergens then rinse well. Then I wipe the rest of him down with “Tropiclean” OxyMed wipes. Periodically I’ll spray his belly and coat with Tripiclean Oxymed Medicated Soothing Spray (not the itch spray) just for a booster, he seems to like it. For routine baths, at least every two weeks I use Zymox enzymatic shampoo and leave-in conditioner. It’s ok to bathe this often as long as you use these premium shampoos. I also give him these two products daily: “Only Natural Pet” Skin & Itch, it’s a homeopathy oral dropper that helps calm the itching. And “Four Leaf Rover” CBD Oil to help with itching and a whole host of other benefits. For the Skin & Itch dropper I just lift his lip and slowly squirt it in between his teeth, he didn’t like it at first, but he’s ok with it now, especially since he knows he gets the CBD afterwards, which I just squirt that on the top of my hand and he licks it off. He Loves the CBD oil.
All these products and methods I talk about here are what I found to work for my dog’s issues (much like your dog’s) after years and years of desperate researching of all types of remedies that were somewhat affordable. I can’t stress enough the importance of removing the allergens from his body after being outside. Almost forgot, I bought 2 air purifiers for the home and they seem to help with keeping dust and dander issues at bay, which I’m confident is helping a lot too.
So, I really hope you are eager to put all these methods to the test. I took the time to write all this because I felt your pain as I was reading your post. I remember being in that position for many painful years, feeling so sad watching my little buddy suffering in agony. It’s a lot of work and expense, but so worth it to see him relaxing now and so peaceful and healthy!!
Ultimately, if you can afford it, go to a holistic vet, they would know best. I haven’t done that yet but hope to sometime in the near future, hoping they will have an easier approach to correcting the condition. Conventional vets only want to give RX drugs like Apaquel or steroids which is bad for the dogs immune system but does work with the itch and skin condition. I definitely don’t recommend that because with a compromised immune system, it leaves your dog vulnerable to other diseases.
I hope this helps, good luck!
My dog has immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. Is this food ok for her? She is on Royal Canin per the specialist and several medications and went into a kind of remission about 9 months ago but it flared up again and now we can’t get it under control. Thought maybe food change would help.
What is the return policy on this food?
In the video it says no problem, but other customer comments say otherwise. Now I’m afraid to order for my cats.
I have been reading about this product for 4 hours now (including watching every video I can find about him and the things he talks about in his video. I have read so many reviews my eyes are actually getting crossed eyed from too much time on iPad. It sounds like there is just an issue because world got a little messed up for everyone due to this “end of life as we know it” plague that just keeps going. Many people have said customer service was great before the virus and that it’s still possible to get ahold of them, just stick with calling instead of email. If you can’t get ahold of them I’ll buy it from you.
I believe they will refund your money but you must pay to ship it back
Nowhere on his website does it say how many cups or meals a bag contains! They don’t show images of the bag labels either. I’m not comfortable with no knowing….
I measured the 1 lb bag of food, and found that it yielded about 9 cups of food. It is expensive, but I put it as a topper over high quality kibble, and it works perfectly. My pup was finicky and now eats his entire meal. I do 2:1 ration of kibble to Dr. Marty. Since my pup is only 11 pounds, it lasts just over a month.
That’s my concern how much do I feed.and how much in a bag.
I have small yourky about 18lbs 11 years old had to vet many times said gallbladder was building up some goo in it vet said meds and food should get him well we tried the vets food she said to give him but he still gets sick on it we are now cooking for him some cooked chicken with light vegys first day seemed ok but got a some what a loose stool so she started to mix a small amount of his canned food in with it hopping it would stop the stool problem but then started to getting sick shortly after he has eaten he is a big part of the family don’t know what to do for him we all love him dearly please help
I don’t like that I have no idea how long a bag will last feeding a large breed dog. The absence of dog feeding instructions and amount in bag I can’t do the math to figure out how long food will last. Say if you have 6 60 pound dogs and feed daily will the bag last 1 day? 2 days? I can’t figure out to see if it’s even affordable. I’m assuming it’s not unless you have small breeds:(
It is not affordable for large breeds. Bag is less than 10 cups and they recommend 4 cups daily for dogs over 90lbs. That’s as a supplement. It’s great food and I really wanted to use it but can’t afford to even get a month’s worth to see results. It’s only for small dogs obviously
The feeding instructions are on the website, as far as the amount in the bag you need to do the math yourself depending on if you use it as a topper or as the only food you will serve your dog.
I have a GSD/Malamute I have been giving her 1/4 of the recommended amount as a topper and the bad has lasted 1week.
Where and how can I order theses foods for my two dogs?
What I mean to ask is do they sell it in any stores that are not on line order only?
I believe only online
My aunt bought this food and the treats for her cats and they did not like it, even with the suggested use of broth to reconstitute it. I found a kitten in Jan. that seemingly will eat anything. So my aunt sent the food and treats to me. I have been feeding my other cat Orijen dry food and she will not touch Dr. Marty’s but that kitten loves it and the treats.
One thing I noticed today when I opened the 3rd bag(one bag lasts my kitten 3 weeks but she also gets Orijen dry and a little canned food so it’s not her only meal otherwise the bag wouldn’t’ last that long) was that the kibbles were much darker and firmer than the first two and that all the kibble had something sticking out of them. After rehydrating and examining it, it appears to be some sort of sinew but I also noticed small rice sized pieces of bone as well in the small amount I had played with.
I called the number on the bottom of the bag and even though, it warned of possible wait time, I got a representative rather quickly. I told her what I had noticed, she informed me no one else has called with that issue(though my aunt had 8 more bags from the same batch and the 2 others she opened looked the same). She apologized and said she would send out 8 bags to replace all those in that batch. How nice.
Though I asked if she wanted the batch number or pictures of what I found, she didn’t seem interested in any of that. I found that odd.
Here’s the number I called 800-670-1839
And FYI, this is just a site doing a review of the product. You really need to contact the product company for answers to many questions that I see here in the comments.
i purchased 3 pack auto ship dog food last fall for my 14 yr old Shitzu-Bichon mix. She loved it, and was always begging for more. Amazing turn around in her health: vision ,hearing, activity levels, soft luxurious coat again!! The kibble was very light tan color and uniform tiny cylindrical shape that crumbled easily. I was all set to review online how fantastic product was and what an amazing change it made ….Then 2nd shipment arrived. It was a completely different product from first batch and my dog would not touch it. It was blackish, non uniform with “white things” sticking out of it. Like Juels said. (It resembled old dried up puppy poop pellets with worms hanging out of it.Gross, I know.)
I did not have any problems with customer service. I’m sure it has to do with Covid 19. I got return slip email and credit for product and cancelled my subscription.
Recencently, our now 15 yr old dog really seemed to be going downhill rapidly. My husband and I talked about how much it helped last time, I looked on Dr Marty’s site, the bag showed the light-colored small food like before, so I gave it another try.
Score!!! All 3 bags were same as orig.!! She love it… just finished first bag..she licks bowl long after food is gone. Her coat is much softer and shiny again. She is back to chasing squirrels, birds, raccoons, cats etc. Not so sure I like that, LOL.!
I hope the product stays the same for next order. It is expensive to use as only food source. I will slowly add in some other type of food to stretch the budget with the next order.
I have a 28 pound Moyen poodle who is a finicky eater at times. I bought Dr. Marty’s and my dog now eats all of his food. I only give about 1/4 cup dry per meal for his two meals but that is enough for him to devour his food. I mix with Purina One Egg & Chicken dry food that I get from Chewy. Only place to get it. I used Honest Kitchen for about 6 months but they changed their recipe and my dog refused it repeatedly. I find it to be about the same price for my dog if you compared the two types as my dog is grain-free and Honest Kitchen grain-free is expensive.
On Dr. Marty’s web site, I want to know why the cat food is only 77% human grade? Why isn’t it 100%? For this reason, I don’t think that I’m going to be ordering.
Try MiconaHex +Triz shampoo not RX I buy from Allivet. Dog PH is different than human and this was recommended by a Dog Dernatologist . Some dog paw licking can be from a fungus & paws may smell like popcorn. I have noticed my dog hardly ever licks her paws anymore and I always wash her paws anytime we come back from her walks so pretty much daily. As soon as we come in I wash her feet with this shampoo and pat dry. Had not given much thought about licking her paws until I read reviews. Also commenting on Apoquel it suppresses immune system and my dog had Mast cell I found on her belly size of pin head caught early over a year ago. I has given her very little Apoquel but if your dog has had cancer do not give Apoquel even their commercial says not to give if dog has had cancer but I would never give at all had I known it suppressed immune system. My dog specialist said she can never take it again. So glad I never gave her alot never finished 2nd RX. Her regular Vet never mentioned not giving Apoquel but her specialist did.
Been feeding Dr Marty for almost a year but this batch is almost white and harder. Anyone with this issue
Couple days ago I ordered the freeze dried cat food and mistakenly gave the credit card # of amer. exp It was supposed to be Visa #. Also, have had a new email and I don’t know if I gave the right one–joanleescott1@gmail.com–(a number one is after my name.) Haven’t heard anything about the order I thought was placed.
I bought and fed Dr. Marty’s raw freeze dried dog food, and found that the crude protein to be very high for my 2 miniature schnauzers. When fed they act as though they just had 10 cups of coffee and bounce all over the place; they become totally out of control. Their hearts race way too much and they become uncontrollable when on the Dr Marty’s dog food; so, decided to cut back on Dr Marty’s brand dog food by giving them only about 5 piece mixed in with their regular (of another brand) dog food. I don’t have a back yard, so I walk them on leashes; however, no way can I do that with Dr. Marty’s brand dog food.
If someone would be willing to sell me their bag please email me. usarmymp85@gmail.com I have been rescuing dogs since I moved to this crappy city, the stray problem is insane. All of the vet care and everything comes out of my own pocket. And now with this stupid virus getting my VA benefits have been pushed back a little bit. It’s overwhelming but I can’t give up on these dogs. I would really appreciate anyone who would be willing to do this for me 💙🐾
For the people who say they use Apoquel, please look into the long term effects dogs are experiencing. Ask your vet about the CATY injection instead. It’s a little more expensive but it’s much easier on your dogs body and it works. Apoquel doesn’t always work or it takes a long time to see results. And again, the long term effects on the liver are just not worth it.
My young Golden loves it… and I even love how the food smells. HOWEVER, the cost is ridiculous! I bought 6 bags for the “special discounted price” of $165. Each bag is only 16 ounces (=1 pound). So I paid $165 for six pounds of dog food!!! My question is why can’t you sell 5 or 10 pound bags instead of only ONE pound bags??? You would save on packaging and pass some savings on to your customers. From now on I simply cannot afford using Dr. Marty’s food for anything other than a “topper” or a training treat. Sadly, you are losing a lot of us because your prices are DRIVING US AWAY! As Sleepy Joe Biden would say, “Come on, Man!”
Unfortunately, I bought a lot of the cat food and neither of my cats like it, so I had to give it away to a friend. I am going to try the treats and hope they like them. I was so disappointed that my cats didn’t like the freeze dried cat food, since it’s so good for them, a real bummer. My one kitty has a highly sensitive system and my other has allergies in her ears. They are on a single ingredient prescribed food, but I was hoping to find another one, just to give them some variety. Problem is, I’ve tried just about everything and I don’t trust a lot of products after doing a ton of research. I have found Go! to be pretty good, but they only eat the fish one and not the duck one, which my vet said the duck is better for them and that pollack (the fish one) can lead to issues.
Stumped.
My 3 cats have been eating one meal per day of Dr. Marty’s food for a few months now and absolutely love it. I am hoping it does them well. I will keep buying it. I DO use bottled water to mix it with as we have a lot of chlorine in our water. They come running when they hear the bag. so far, I am pleased and the cats seem to be, too!!!!
I watched the videos read a lot of the reviews from different people..an I have to agree that this product is a rip off.. 1lb for $30 dollars.??? Dr.tgat Marty you are a con artist you said yourself you want to keep cost down an cut out the middle man so it be cheaper for the consumer but it’s not affordable at all..its actually a lot more expensive than any premium dog food out there.. 16once for $30 is crazy insane regardless of what your claims are..if you want your product to help the animals around the world is at a cheap price is a joke.. If you really meant what you said an back by your words then you should be selling your product at a cheaper price or at least be price competitive with the leading dog foods that is out there.. Like making a 30lb bag for $30 that would be true to your words.. So far as I see it you Dr Marty are a liar an a con artist.. Just another con artist trying to make money you should be ashamed of yourself misleading people to buy your product..
I just bought 3 big orders of several kinds of these products, unfortunately, my dogs hate the smell and won’t eat it-I also think the smell is BAD. I contacted Dr. Marty and asked for a return authorization slip for each box and received them ASAP, but UPS Store says I have to have a tracking # or pay shipping cost to return the boxes. I cannot find tracking numbers, have filled out the form and asked for them to be sent to me, now after reading comments about not being able to get a refund easily like the video states, I am worried that I will be stuck with all this VERY EXPENSIVE dog food, etc., that my dogs will not eat. I am sorry I ordered in the first place, not knowing the price. I am 75 and on fixed income, there is no way I can afford this even if my dogs would eat it.
I have 2 cats, I bought dr Marty’s catfood to feed to my older cat that has gallbladder cancer but she would have nothing to do with it, my other cat snacked on it over a period of 3 to 4 days. After that he started looking skinny and lethargic. Stopped eating and would seek out hiding places to sleep. He was not acting himself at all. I called my vet and asked them if they would look at him and what was going on. They said to bring him in and I did, they weighed him and he had lost 4lbs in about a week, they took his temp and his temp was find but there was blood on the thermometer when they pulled it out. They did blood work and his white and red blood cell count was way low. They put him on meds antibiotics and prednisone. He is about done with his meds about a week later and he has been back for a checkup since his first visit. He is doing lots better now, he has gained about a 1lb back, but it was bad. Almost lost him. I sent dr. Marty’s cat food back for a refund and I wont ever feed my little ones that stuff ever again. Good luck to ppl wo do but I dont think it is safe for some pets and the only way to know is to feed them that food and watch them get super sick, pay hundreds in vet Bill’s and hope and pray that they get better. No thanks, my babies are more important to me to play with their lives like that. I’m only writing this so other pet owners will know what they are getting in to with dr
Marty’s catfood. Best wishes to all and their pets.
I was impressed with Dr Marty’s videos & information and ready to start ordering, however, after reading the reviews I’ve decided not to move forward. It appears they are happy to accept payment for your order but very slow when it comes to returns. This is their policy and they should honour it. I will be looking at other alternatives as a result.
I ordered and paid $75 for food and treats that I have not received! May I expect a refund?
While I agree that the dog food is great,. It is only great if you can get it. Shipping is terrible, you can never be sure how long it will take to get it. You get charged for it and it doesn’t get shipped for several days after that. They tell you there is no faster way to receive it. I have even purchased several bags to try to stay ahead but it never seems to work out. The customer service never has an answer just that they are sorry for the delay. I am very upset with the way in which the shipping is set up.
I can’t get my product either. So far one week. I finally heard from them. Also, I’m trying to figure out if anything in the bag is from China.

I am totally confused as to these reviews, this is reviews for Dr Marty’s products not a order place nor a place to review other dog products or some of the other bogus stuff, geez 🙄😑 get it together people for people who want an honest review of the product or products.
I feed my Yorkie your freeze dried dog food and he is doing well on it. I like the product but my complaint is your marketing strategy.
I have received several emails claiming BLACK FRIDAY SALE!! SALE FOR THIS and SALE FOR THAT! Claiming various % off. My recent order was delayed and I got an email saying sorry and because of the delay please use this code(sorry25) for a 25% discount on next order. I tried the code and it didnt work. They told me it only works on REGULAR priced items.
I have always got the dog food for #29 per bag or 3 bage for $85.
They said if I pay reg price $59 I can use the discount code and save 25% That comes out to $45 per bag What the hell is a discount good for when I can get it for #29 or 3/$85
I think your advertising is a bait and switch and it makes your company look cheap and questionable.
Hello,
With al the talk of allergy, did you know you can give cats and dogs Zyrtec?
I have had a lot of issues sorting out my cat’s food allergies and Zyrtec has been a blessing and it also helped heal up the hotspots. I also use 1 part organic apple cider vinegar with 2 parts water on a damp paper towel to clean him – helps with the scratching – for dogs you don’t need the water.
Please Google it. Lots of vets and vet universities talk about it.
My dog loved Dr Marty’s Nature’s Blend for adult dogs “RAW” so I ordered another bag. again she was eating it and liked it.
But then about half way thru the bag I reached in for a feeding only to come out with a hand full of food loaded with bugs
and worms. Upon looking at the pellets I found holes where the bugs had either came out of of eaten into. I dumped it out
and the bottom of the bag was full of powder from all the bug activity. The bag was stored in a plastic container with a lid
that fastened down thus eliminating contamination from its surroundings. I wont be making any further purchases of this
product
my dog will not eat this i just want to cancel any more shipping products she hasnt eaten for 1 1/2 days so i had to give her the other dog food thanks any way

Hello Robert. My name is Kat, I am with Dr. Marty Pets. I apologize for any confusion. This is not our official site. This is a 3rd party review platform. I am also sorry to hear about your pup’s condition. Taking a look into your account, with the information you provided. I do see that one of our agents was able to assist you in returning your orders. I see that 4 orders were fully refunded on 8/2/21. If you ever have any questions, please email me at kat@drmartypets.com. Have a nice day.
For what it’s worth I started 3 of my dogs on Dr Marty’s food, but sadly it was too late for two of the eldest dogs. One ended up with renal failure and the other with cancer. This was in no way related to the Dr Marty food. In fact they all liked it so much it seemed cruel to try to feed one of them the food, since they all knew the sound of the packaging. My dog with renal failure needed a food with low protein, so I made him food, and strictly controlled the amounts of protein and nitrates in his diet. He lived another 2 years after his diagnosis. After he passed, I found some old bags of Dr Marty’s food from the original order, and started feeding my 3 year old toy poodle. I had been feeding her some (supposedly high quality food) I purchased at the Vet. She had ballooned up to 6 lbs, and her energy was suffering. After a few months of Dr Marty’s food, she started to loose the excess weight, and her energy levels skyrocketed. She’s lost about 1 1/2 pounds which is a lot for a toy, but now her weight has stabilized.
It’s been my theory for some time, that the food we’re feeding our dogs is making them sick, and shortening their life spans. When I was younger it wasn’t unusual for a pet to live 15-16 years, but these days it seems our treasured companions seem to fall victims of horrible diseases much younger than ever before. The Dr Marty commercial (long as it was) really hit home, and I’m so grateful I gave it a try. I just wish I had found it earlier before my other dogs got sick.
I have a 16 year old blind, deaf, toothless, 10 lb. mini schnauzer. She is EXTREMELY picky about her food and I usually have to coax and beg her to eat. While I was visiting with my daughter in Maryland, her neighbor, Vince, gave me a sample of Dr. Marty’s food and low and behold, she LOVES it!. After all of these reviews, I am concerned that I may have given my little best friend something that will hurt her. I hope that I can come back to this site with health and praise for Dr. Marty’s food. My LadyBug’s health is my primary concern.
Hello: I too have been interested in the Dr’s product. I know better nutrition, better/safe pet food is essential. But the big commercial companies might be coming on social media and making negative comments about any competition, including this dog food. Not hard to do. Just make negative comments on pages that have reviews. Does this site check the validity of the reviews? Probably not, that would be hard. I guess we can do more research, but it’s a sticky subject complicated by a huge industry that supplies pet food. Even personal accounts can be subjective or not the whole story. For instance, dogs licking paws can be several issues. Allergies, nervous/bored dog, lawn treated with chemicals, etc.. I respect the real replies here, just wanted to chime in on my concerns. BTW: I do find this site helpful and reliable.
I bought your line of dog food and after only getting started on the first bag my dog was hit and killed by a car so I have the other 8 bags I want to return could you tell me how to go about returning them and where I need to send them please
I bought the Dr Marty’s Natures Blend and a few bags of the treats for my two dogs and even gave some to my DIL to try with her dog. After three weeks one of my babies suddenly starting hemoraging blood from his rectum and the bleeding would not stop for a few hours until I had to take him to an Emergency Vet 45 minutes away from my house. He bled all the way into the clinic and they said he was critical because of low blood pressure and beyond dehydrated. He would drink water and 5 seconds later he would shoot blood out every time and right before I got him out the door he threw up everything he had in his stomach, mucus and watery puke. It happened on a Sunday morning suddenly with no warning. 4 hours later he was critically ill. They said some dogs had this reaction to raw dog food and he had severe HGE. After nine hours on IV antibiotics and saline I had to take him home still bleeding with antibiotics to give him every 12 hours. The bill was 1317.00. We almost lost him! There should be some warning about this happening so people are aware. He showed only loose stools the day before. It was so frightening and I had his blood all over the house and the back yard and me. He is doing better 4 days later but I am extremely upset that it happened.
Dr Marty gave me a full refund immediately of the food I bought which I appreciate. I think he should cover the cost of the hospital stay also!
im sending this dog food back because he won’t eat it
HOW DO I GET MY MONEY BACK? I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY IMPROVEMENTS IN MY DOGS HEALTH OR ALLERGIES.
I am still waiting for my order .
One order was appently sent to me in Mexico … Tracking showed it was sent back to CA
Another order has apparently been sent and I have been informed it has been delivered It has NOT!
after reading through all the reviews, just posting my opinion. the price alone is enough to give me second thoughts, who pays $59.95 for one lb of dogfood??? that’s the current price on their website. 3 bags for $170.85, and 6 bags for $323.70. seriously???? 6lbs for $323????? that’s insane!!!! i’ll continue to feed mine TOTW and American Journey. plus after reading all the nightmare stories of those trying to do returns…..no thanks.
Really …..held 35 min. just to talk to customer service and finally gave up. If you care about our pets you have to care about their owners who have questions!!!! Your lack of customer service made me know this IS NOT the right place for me to order anything for my pet.
Anyone notice the sudden major change in food color and smell. I bought 12 bags for over 300.00
the food is almost white and my dog don’t like it. After his loving it foe the past 9 months. Major
difference.
